What to Expect on your MPR Retreat

We warmly welcome you to MPR. Our retreats are an amazing experience, and so we wanted to share a few notes on what to expect, to make your stay as productive and proactive as possible.

Our mission is to empower you, to elevate your music production process, and to walk away with the tools to be more self sufficient. We want everyone working together, collaboratively, every step of the way.

By the end of your stay you’ll have worked shoulder to shoulder with not only fellow artists, but also professional engineers & songwriters, session musicians, producers & mixers. All of this will give you invaluable insight into how professional records are made.

We ask each retreater to bring in a tune to work on. We cannot promise to fully produce & mix 8 songs in a week as this just isn’t realistic, & it isn’t the point. The point is to roll your sleeves up & learn the process for yourself by doing it along side us throughout the week. By being involved in everyone else’s production you will learn far more than just focusing on your own.

All the studio areas are open for everyone all the time, & we encourage everyone to hang out & get involved at all times. It is not a one-at-a-time situation, where you are waiting for your turn to work on your track. Its happening all day, everyday, so we hope you make the most of everything on offer.

We promise to work with you on every step of the production process, and with you all week will be Barny, Chris, Clay & Ben. All 6 studio setups will be active for the duration of the retreat. The schedule is as follows.

🚀 Arrival day - A relaxed welcome meeting to hear everyone’s demos altogether so we’re all on the same page!

🚀 Studio Day 1 - We will be working together in smaller groups to get each of your tracks prepped & ready for tracking.

🚀 Studio Day 2 - Further development of tunes. We will have Ross, our session drummer in for the day.

🚀 Studio Day 3  - You can present one of your songs to our guest producer Jim Abbiss for feedback & extra tracking. We again hope that everyone will hang out together, & avoid just waiting your turn for your track to be worked on. We also have our session violin/viola player Gillian attending.

🚀 Studio Day 4 - We want to wrap up tunes today, so you all get great monitor mixes to take away, this means working for around 1 hour per retreater on mixing in Studio A. So if it is this process that interests you, we recommend you make the most of that. Also we have Davide attending, to add any final touches to your tracks. Then, after dinner, and a few drinks we will have a listening party to end the retreat.

As our many 5 star reviews endorse, you will leave our MPR Retreats with a much deeper understanding of the process of music production. You will feel empowered to continue your musical journey with more passion & more skills to do so.

If you do wish for more mix tweaks & mastering to your tracks after the retreat has ended, you are welcome book this in directly with Barny yourself.

We wish you every success in your musical journey & if you do release your tracks on Spotify etc, we would be proud to add them to our MPR Presents Spotify playlist.

Much love from MPR founders Barny, Chris & Jim.
